New Tray Icon Rule/Edit Tray Icon Rule Dialog

You can access this dialog from the Manage Rules dialog, Tray Icon tab:

The New Tray Icon Rule/Edit Tray Icon Rule dialog is used to create/edit such resource handling rules as changing Omea's tray icon if the specified conditions and exceptions are met. The precondition for all tray icon rules is that the resources which this rule handles are not read. The same dialog is used for creating a new Tray Icon Rule and editing an existing Tray Icon Rule. The only difference to the look of the dialog is the title.

Field to set for which type of resources the rule is to be applied. This field is, actually, a link to call another dialog - Choose Resource Type.

Conditions/Exceptions

These fields are used to set conditions/exceptions for the rule to be activated/skipped, respectively. Set conditions/exceptions are listed in the corresponding fields. The predefined condition in this dialog is "Resource is not read".

The conditions are shown as short sentences. Some of the sentences have a hyperlink phrase inside. Pressing the link shows a dialog to enter some text/value for the condition.

Press the Add button to add new Condition/Exception. Pressing Add button calls the Select Condition(s) dialog. The dialog is similar for both Conditions and Exceptions areas and includes several groups of conditions. Press Delete () in the conditions/exceptions field to delete the selected condition/exception in the list.

Icon

This field provides a preview space in which you can see the file selected as a Tray Icon. Now you can select the icon files from those provided in Omea and those which you have on your local system.

Select one of the two available tray icons sources and press the Browse… button.

Show/Hide Buttons

You can use the Show () and Hide () buttons to expand or collapse the Conditions or Exceptions fields.

Tray Icons Rules Usage Examples

The tray icons can be very useful for you if you want to keep track of the incoming resources such as for example, feeds and newsgroups posts (these items are not read), tasks, messages received from the specified Contacts.

Once you define one or several tray icon rules, Omea's tray icon changes to the icon which you have selected in the New Tray Icon Rule dialog.

If Omea tray icon is changed, you can move the mouse pointer to it and see which tray icon rule is active and the number of items which are unread.

The order in which Omea processes the tray icon rules depends on:

So if you have several Tray Icon Rules, the tray icons alter as you read the items and their status is changed to “Read”.

You can track this behavior by the Change tray icon when one resource becomes read option in Omea's General Options. This option controls the behavior of tray icons which you have selected in tray icon rules. When checked, Omea Reader'sOmea Pro's tray icon specified in tray icon rules will change when you have read (and/or marked as Read) at least one resource which is specified as condition in the tray icon rule to the different tray icon (if you have more than one tray icon rules; you can change the order of the tray icon rules in Manage Rules dialog) or to usual Omea's icon when all tray icon rules have been applied.

Pins

You can now use pins if you want Omea to reuse the conditions which you have once defined in any of the dialogs for defining rules. To pin the condition, just click the Pin button (). Once you pin some condition, it will always appear in the Rules Manager dialog if you click the New button in appropriate tab. Such condition as “Resource is not read” is always pre-pined in the New Tray Icon Rule dialog.

The pre pined conditions are not intended for existing in Omea “forever” and you can easily delete them by pressing the Delete button in the Conditions field but you may find them rather useful when you become more familiar with the Rules.

If you use some condition or exception often, you can easily pin it for later use by pressing the pin condition button () in order not to specify it again in the future.
